Concrete Paving in the Summer

How to Stay Cool and Avoid Heat Stroke

It can be tough to stay cool during the summer months when you’re working on a concrete paving project. The heat and humidity can take their toll, but with a few simple precautions you can stay safe and avoid heat stroke. The yakima concrete group will discuss how to stay cool while paving with concrete, as well as some safety tips to keep in mind. Let’s get started!

The first thing you need to do when paving with concrete in the summer is to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeinated beverages, as they can dehydrate you. It’s also a good idea to wear loose, breathable clothing that will help you stay cool. A wide-brimmed hat will protect you from the sun, and sunglasses will help keep the glare out of your eyes.

Now that you’re dressed for the heat, it’s time to get started on your project. Concrete can be mixed by hand or with a machine, but if you’re working in hot weather it’s best to use a machine. The concrete mix should be kept moist during the mixing process, so add water as needed. Once the concrete is mixed, it’s time to pour it into the forms.

If you’re working with a large area of concrete, you may need to use a power trowel to finish the surface. This machine can be operated by one person, but it’s best to have two people working together so that one can hold the trowel while the other finishes the edges.

Once the concrete is poured and smoothed, it’s important to protect it from the sun. Concrete can get very hot in direct sunlight, so make sure to cover it with a wet burlap or tarp. You’ll also need to keep traffic off of the concrete until it has had time to cure. Depending on the temperature and humidity, this can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours.

By following these simple tips, you can stay safe and cool while paving with concrete in the summer. Just remember to drink plenty of water, wear loose clothing, and protect the concrete from the sun. With a little preparation, you can avoid heat stroke and finish your project successfully.
